Who Else Feels Like Xehanort's Character Peaked in Birth by Sleep?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 12:38 PM PST

In BBS, he felt truly menacing. His introduction right away you felt something unsettling about him. His manipulation, how cunning he was, how well he set events in motion, and how brutal he was in the final fights against the Wayfinder Trio made him feel like true final boss material.

In DDD, his character is just downgraded to the role of "final villian being summoned back" (think Voldemort in Harry Potter 4).

This is a wildly unpopular opinion on this sub, but in KH3 he let me down in so many ways. First the voice actor change which was outside of everyone's control and unfortunate (I finished the game after first getting ReMind). 2nd he felt just kind of there? It's hard to explain, but I was more invested in seeing how everyone elses' arcs wrapped up (including the villians) than I was to see Xehanort. I also felt like his final boss fight was really lacking in something. It just didn't have the epic feel to it that the other game's final bosses had. Armored Xenahort was really cool and well done, and I love the crazy combos of the final fight with him but again something just felt very lacking in that whole confrontation.

    What do you all think?

For a Disney joint, this series can get real dark

"Weren't you that girl that got crystalized?"

I've been playing KH1 since the ps2 original and I never noticed this sign until a few minutes ago.

    Finally beat it on proud

In DDD, Sora seems to get forcibly & aggressively knocked unconscious primarily by Nightmares in every Sleeping World he travels to. I like to believe that this is to show how much further he's being plunged into the deeper & darker depths of sleep by Xehanort as the story progresses.

I’ve always wanted to see the interactions between Riku, Donald and Goofy in KH1 when he takes the keyblade and the two leave with him. The most I’ve found is this page from the manga:

I began the series in March 2020, after my friend told me about it for days. It quickly became my favorite and I played it all through the year. After finishing kh3, I wondered if i could 100% kh1. It's been tough, but after all this time here it is ! (It's my first hard mode & first plat)

Kh1 cloud looks 3X more cool than he does in other games, with that red cape and cool looking armor, does he ever use that in other games?

Is this a reference to castle oblivion?

Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, was better when he was his own person and not Terra-Xehanort's Heartless.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 12:10 PM PST

The Seeker of Darkness was a more interesting character in the original game and Chain of Memories than in II and beyond. I think this because of how he's presented in the original game and Chain of Memories.

Back when it was just the original game, Ansem was presented as a world-renowned researcher and the king of Hollow Bastion. He spent his days studying the heart, but his obsession with learning more and more caused him to go mad. The various experiments he did to unlock the secrets of the heart resulted in him destroying Hollow Bastion and turning into a being of pure darkness.

I found him to be a more tragic character in the original game; he was originally a noble man, but he turned into something awful and believed darkness was the answer to everything. Cliché, sure, but he was still a stark contrast to the cartoony Disney villains.

But turning him into just a Heartless made him lose the uniqueness he initially had. He was menacing and interesting to me in the original game because they build him up to be someone Sora could look to for help, and you spend the adventure collecting his reports, only to find out he's the reason the events of the first game's happening at all.

But come future titles, he just became another bad guy in group of them, spouting the same faux-philosophical nonsense the rest of them do.

In honor of Kingdom Hearts' 20th Anniversary next year, my friend has lovingly designed custom-art playing cards!! The project has just launched and support of any kind is appreciated!

I love the Disney World callbacks in Sora's Formchanges. I like to believe that many of his new experiences in these Worlds gave him a lot of direct inspiration for his Transformation Finishers.
