Posted: 30 May 2020 06:49 PM PDT One of the most under-appreciated aspects of KH3's gameplay was the return if the mechanism called "Revenge Value". After complains with the poorly designed boss fights and broken/underwhelming combat with BBS and 3D, the Osaka team returned to a similar combat style that KH2FM for 0.2 and KH3. One of the design choices was reintroducing a mechanic that was nicknamed "Revenge Value" in KH2FM and making it official in KH3. I assume most of you have heard about RV from experienced players and speed runners of the KH games. But for those who do not, here is a simplified definition: Revenge Value is a numerical value that is counted for all of Sora's attacks on enemies and bosses have a threshold number that if it is exceeded, will cause the boss to retaliate or evade. This mechanic is put in to prevent bosses from being indefinitely looped in combos and keep players from being too aggressive. Mostly human and smaller boss fights like the Organization 13 fights have RV but there are a couple exceptions. Being aware of it can allow you to strategize and even manipulate boss behavior to make the fight easier. While KH3's RV system is similar to KH2FM in design. I have noticed there are some subtle differences.
If you would like to see an incomplete spreadsheet of KH3 Sora's attacks with all the values and other stats it is here it's slightly outdated since some attack's values were adjusted and it doesn't include Light, Dark and Double Form's attacks. And here is an additional one for ReMind attacks and boss data that was given to me. Here is the list of bosses that have RV from both the base game and Re:Mind + Limit Cut from encounter order: Demon Tower heartless, RV is 8 Davy Jones, RV is 8 Dark Baymax, RV is 5 Anti-Aqua, RV is 8 Vanitas, RV is 6 Heartless Lich, RV is 4 Xigbar, RV is 7 Dark Riku, RV is 6.5 Marluxia, RV is 6.5 Larxene, RV is 6.5 Luxord, RV is N/A when "staggered" and 7 when "normal" (might be an error translation from the KH3 Ultimania) Vanitas (2nd fight), RV is 6 Terra-Xehanort, RV is 6.5 Xion, RV is 6.5 Saïx, RV is 6.5 Young Xehanort, RV is 7 Ansem, RV is 7 Xemnas, RV is 7 Xehanort Replicas, RV is 8 Armored Xehanort, RV is 10 Master Xehanort, RV is 6 Sorceror Nobody, RV is 6 Dark Inferno, RV is 6.5 Here are the ReMind enemies: Dark Inferno X, RV is 6.5 Anti-Aqua (Redux), RV is 8 Terra-Xehanort (solo fight), RV is 6.5 All keyblade graveyard fights are the same so for the sake of avoiding redundancy they've been omitted Xehanort Replicas, RV is 8 Amored Xehanort (from replicas), RV is 10 And finally here are the values from limit cut and the secret episode: Data Young Xehanort, RV is 7 Data Dark Riku, RV is 6.5 Data Saïx, RV is 6.5 Data Larxene, RV is 6.5 Data Xigbar, RV is 7 Data Ansem, RV is 7.5 Data Xemnas, RV is 7 Data Luxord, RV is 10.5 Data Marluixa, RV is 6.5 (decreases to 4 in armored state) Data Terra-Xehanort, RV is 7 Data Vanitas, RV is 6.5 Data Xion, RV is 7 (decreases to 5 in armored state and if armor bar is depleted it will reset back to 7 and cancel out any added on RV) Data Master Xehanort, RV is 8.5 Yozora, RV is 8 And there you have it. I hope that future KH games continue to have this mechanic or and use this game to as a base to expand and improve further onward. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 May 2020 07:00 PM PDT I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. My 2 year old grew up on kingdom hearts, he falls asleep to the music and loves the opening compilation on YouTube. He watches Mickey Mouse ClubHouse, he calls him King Mickey. My 1 year old loves the music, and loves watching the game. They'll both just plop down on us as either me or my fiance plays. Posted: 30 May 2020 02:02 PM PDT This is going to be a long post. I just finished playing KH3, which completes all the games available in KH – All in one. Quick background, I bought a PS4 in late March to get ready for FF7R. I put about 100 hours into Witcher 3, and enjoyed it a lot. FF7R came out and I loved it, played it all and got platinum. Then I got the KH – All in one, not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I had played KH1 and KH2 about a decade ago, as well as KH 358/2. On all three of those games, I did some extra content / synthesis, but never "completed" either of the games. I started playing KH1, not sure what order / how much of the game I would complete / what difficulties I would play on, but then decided during my play through of KH1 to make the criteria of when I would be done with the game was when I unlocked all secret endings / additional content. So here goes – a quick(ish) run down of each game of the series from my perspective in order. Disclaimer: I am not good at these games, I am not suggesting that this is the optimal way to do it, just the way that I did it. I had a blast playing through it all, and I hope you do to should you choose to go down this road. Under the "how to unlock secret ending(s)" section of this post, I'm listing how to do it on the difficulty I played on, I understand that there are easier / faster ways to do it. Now let's get into it. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix: Difficulty – Standard, Total Play Time (on file): 37:09, How to unlock secret endings (there are 2) - Complete Hades Cup, seal all Keyholes, find 99 Puppies, complete Jiminy's Journal. This one was the one that started them all. I've played it I think twice before this time, so it was a little bit redundant but still a lot of fun. I tried beating Sephiroth / Unknown at about level 50 or so, and got smacked. Then started grinding to try to get the ultimate weapon, only to get bored / annoyed with the giant white heartless so I tried again at level 82 and just was able to mash the keyblade. Kingdom Hearts Re Chain of Memories: Difficulty – Beginner, Total Play Time: 13:12 for Sora, 5:25 for Riku, How to unlock secret endings – N/A Totally different battle system plus no secret endings available = play this on beginner. I was punished a couple times for thinking I could mash Triangle, but was able to build a deck that worked. Also found out that you actually have to play the boss / enemy cards instead of just having them in your deck…. About 90% of the way through Sora's story. Whoops. Lots of good story content, and I didn't mind the battle system, although it was on beginner. Some of it felt like a slog, but they introduced a lot of characters that will be in the series till the end. I was level 53 with Sora at the end, and 43 with Riku Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days: Cinema / no gameplay Watching this instead of playing it was nice, because I remember thinking it was an absolute grind to get through all the missions when I played this on the DS. It still dragged a little bit, but you know I love my boy Roxas, so anything featuring him I'm going to be a fan of. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix: Difficulty – Critical, Total Play Time - 50:57, how to unlock secret endings – Get three crowns on Sora (Beat Lingering Will, all 13 Data battles, and the 13 Mushroom Challenges) The first time I played through this I did it on standard. I loved the game then, I remember vividly thinking how the prologue was so well done and set it up perfectly. For this play through, I knew that I didn't want to do anything gummi ship related, so that meant picking Proud or Critical. Hindsight I'm really glad I picked Critical, because completing the journal would have taken a lot longer. Playing on critical really wasn't that bad, and it did force me to think of other ways to beat bosses other than mashing the keyblade. I was about level 50 when I beat the main story, didn't have too many problems with it. The data bosses kicked my ass, but then I grinded to level 99 and was able to beat most of them by cheesing master form / limit form. I fully powered up all the forms / synthesized the ultima weapon. I feel kind of bad for cheesing Lingering Will, but I guess not bad enough to where I wanted to beat him outright. The boss that I probably struggled with most was Data Form Xaldin, it was very rewarding when I finally beat him (probably took 10 tries or so). All of the other bosses I took 5 times or fewer I believe once I learned how to cheese. This game is awesome, and there is a reason it is most people's favorite of the series. The additional content they added for FM was very good. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix: Difficulty – Standard, Total play time – 37 hours (12:59 for Terra, 10:06 for Ventus, 12:58 for Aqua, 1:08 for Final / Secret Episode), How to unlock Secret Episode – Complete Final Episode, Complete Sticker album, Get the Keyslinger Trophy (beat 9999 unversed) This might have been my favorite game during all of these play through, maybe because everything felt so new (remember I had only played KH1, KH2, and KH 358/2). I thought the story would get repetitive because you have to do it three times, but the different perspectives, especially in the latter half of the game, was really well done. Combat system was different at first, but pretty straight forward after a while. The secret / final episodes were amazing, and well worth it. There was a lot of confusion (on my end at least) on how to get the secret ending. It looks like the criteria changed a lot from the PSP release to the Final Mix release. Grinding to beat 9999 unversed wasn't bad, just get 4 mega flares and go to the spot where you fight the Unversed Armor in Radiant garden, cast it twice with Aqua, rinse and repeat. I needed to kill about 3k when I was done getting everyone's sticker, and it took me about an hour. I was convinced the Keyslinger trophy was a PS4 unlockable, not an in game trophy… whoops. Kingdom Hearts Re:coded: Cinema / no gameplay Wow, I am glad that this one was just a cinema because if I had to revisit all those worlds which felt like the 10th time, that would be a slog. Maybe I shouldn't trash the game without ever playing it, but I was fine with this being converted into movie form. It's not like there was 0 content added in terms of story that you needed to see in order for everything to make sense in KH3, but it wasn't much higher than 0. Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Final Mix: Difficulty – Standard, Total Play time: 22:56, How to unlock secret ending: beat the game with 7 trophies (in game trophies… lol) Not sure if it was because I was so close to KH3, or if it was the game itself, but this one got a little repetitive for me. The battle / movement sped up a lot, and half the time I was in flow motion flying around out of control. I still enjoyed the game, and wow did they pack a lot of story content in the last world, so this is a game that's hard to skip over. I wasn't crazy about the companion / dream eater system, felt like I barely scratched the surface. Trying to max out all of them or so would be insane, didn't even create all of them. I was breezing through the game no problem on standard until I ran into Young Xehanort, and struggled with him a bit, probably took me 5 or 6 tries. I was level 35 with Sora and level 43 with Riku when I finished the game. Not too much grinding to get to 7 trophies, for those interested these are the ones I got – In The Clear, Stop Drop Roller, Keyslinger (the only trophy I had to go back and grind for), In the Munny, Reality Shifter, Pro Linker, Ribbit Reaper. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep A fragmentary Passage: Difficulty – Beginner, Total play time – 3:44, How to unlock secret ending – N/A I heard that this game can be punishing on proud, so I just went with Beginner. The first game with unreal graphics, it looked amazing. Lots of good story as well. You can beat it in 3 to 5 hours, so it's pretty easy to digest. I do love Aqua as well, good character development for her too. Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover: Cinema / No Gameplay Wasn't sure what to expect other than I heard it was going to get confusing / convoluted, but I ended up really enjoying it. It's not like the story was overly complicated and I was actually pretty intrigued on figuring out who was the traitor! Although I looked it up and the answer is kind of lame (if that is the answer). They introduced a couple of very important characters for KH3 (well the end of KH3), as well as maybe… KH4?!? We will see. Don't skip this one, it is worth it. Kingdom Hearts 3: Difficulty – Standard, Total Play Time – 71:32, How to unlock secret ending – Get 60 Lucky Emblems The reason I got this bundle in the first place. The game did not disappoint. Of course a lot of my later time was spent mashing the key blade, but I cracked a smile on the Titan Boss fight when you got on the train and started jumping over the enemy projectiles. Some really cool visuals that they did in this game. The story was good, you could tell they tried to tie everything together at the end, and I would say they succeeded for the most part. I did want to finish this game off with a platinum. No one specific trophy took me super long, I wanted to get the ultima weapon before the final boss, so I got all treasures and lucky emblems before fighting him. I don't think I ever died on this game… besides that big fight on the Leviathan lol. I kept on dying. And that's it! This was more for me to journal my experience than anything, but maybe this will be found interesting to some. Let me know if you have any questions / want me to try to clarify anything! TL;DR – I started playing KH All in one a little over a month ago. I just finished KH3 and got every secret ending. I played most games on standard, some on beginner, and KH2 on critical. I loved the series! [link] [comments]
