Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:09 PM PDT Before I start this post, let me just say that I adore Aqua. She is one of my favourites in the series, which I know is not an unpopular sentiment. However, most of the time when I read the discussions that people have about her on various platforms, I tend to see things like 'she is so perfect, what an angel' or 'her story in BBS is about her cleaning up the boys' messes'. The thing is, I don't agree with any of this. I don't think she is perfect, nor do I think she was 'cleaning up' after Terra and Ven in BBS. If anything, she is one of the most flawed characters in the series, and said flaws were at least partly responsible for the tragedy of BBS. However that's exactly what makes her a nuanced, great and very likeable character. (But of course being an absolute badass doesn't hurt either:)) Personally, I think that Aqua is/was an Eraqus 2.0 in progress. It is strongly implied, or I personally got the impression while playing BBS, that she is the type of person who would be a straight-A honours student in school. The kinda girl who is extremely smart, intelligent and diligently follows every rule. That's part of the reason why I see her as the one who follows Eraqus' teachings most closely. To her credit though, at the beginning she had no reason to question anything. It's only when signs started to appear that she should have realised that maybe whatever she was taught is not 100% correct. BBS established pretty early on that Eraqus believes in extremities. He believes in light being the sole acceptable entity, pretty much the exact same way some villains think about darkness. His thought process is just as harmful. KH makes it abundantly clear that light and darkness are two sides of the same coin, they exist in a balance. Xehanort of all people is aware of this, but for some reason Eraqus doesn't believe in balance and thinks that darkness in people has to be crushed. That in itself is completely unrealistic to expect from anyone considering only the Princesses of Heart exist without darkness inside them. In the end, his extremist teachings end up harming all his students. Like I said before, Aqua is the one who inherited Eraqus' teachings the most. As a consequence, she spends majority of BBS in a personal struggle. She is not 'cleaning up' anyone's mess, she is part of the problem that results in tragedy. She wants to do her duties as a Master and follow Eraqus' orders, but she is also trying her best to protect and reconnect with her friends. She legitimately tries to trust and believe in Terra, but due to her extremist upbringing and Eraqus' ideals that she herself also fully believes in (remember Aqua trying to straight up murder the Tremaines just because she sensed darkness?), it just doesn't work. The first time someone tells her Terra did something bad, and she is already swayed. Even if it's Maleficent of all people. Her growing distrust in her friends eventually pushes them away from her, which is the very thing she wanted to prevent. It also doesn't help the situation that Aqua can come across as very strict and moralising. Of course that's never her intention, she always acts out of kindness and worry for her friends, but that doesn't change the fact that she can sound like a real bitch sometimes. The way she constantly tells Ventus to go home just sounds incredibly condescending, no wonder he calls her out on this and on her distrust in Terra and calls her awful lol. Also leave it to Aqua to launch straight into a lecture about darkness instead of being sympathetic to Terra when his dad was killed right in front of him. We all know that Aqua always has the best intentions. She is extremely kind and caring and would do anything to keep her friends safe. But her condescending over-protectiveness, her distrust, her extremist beliefs, and her personal struggles between her duties and her friends end up driving her friends away from her, ultimately resulting in the tragedy that we see in BBS. In future titles, I would love to see if being in the Dark Realm and spending time with Riku changed her perception on her beliefs. There is already a small hint that she might start to see things differently, but I think this would be a very interesting topic to explore even more. Overall, I feel that by saying Aqua is perfect and that she did nothing wrong, the fandom strips her off the incredible depth and nuance she has as a character. 'Fanon Aqua' tends to be extremely bland, too sweet and too perfect, which is a shame, because 'Canon Aqua' in my opinion is great and one of the best written characters in the series. Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:36 PM PDT Why do people hate it? Honestly, Wonderland felt like a more bland world, excluding the bizarre room. Sure Sabor's ambushes can be annoying, but it's not that bad. [link] [comments]

Only I think the Kingdom Hearts cast is getting weirder and weirder? Posted: 28 Jul 2020 04:50 PM PDT I know it's strange that I say this because since the first game we have a boy accompanied by an anthropomorphic duck and dog. But Disney characters aside... The original cast is increasingly becoming a mess. Probably because Nomura refuses these characters to have their proper ends. Initially we only had three normal children from an island. Now we have characters from the past who haven't aged, with one of them having existed thousands of years before KH1. We have children who are a kind of complicated clones of other children and if someone asked them who their parents are, none of them would know how to answer that question right. And one of these clones has the appearance of one of the girls but is actually a clone of the boy because "memories". You know the worst? I believe the entire KHX cast will somehow be revived in the present times and also live with these characters. This cast is a mess on an existential level. Don't doubt Young Xehanort returns in a future game and becomes an ally even though he's theoretically over 80 years old. [link] [comments]

Which KH game had the best keychains in your opinion? Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:27 PM PDT As much as I want to say KH2, I think the keyblades from KH3D are pretty great. [link] [comments]
TIR (today I realized) the hollow bastion restoration committee is just avalanche Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:14 PM PDT except instead of cloud it has squall, oh wait.... his name is Leon. in seriousness, it's cool to see basically Barret's Avalanche cell in KH, and I hadn't really hit me until I played FFVII R and finished it a few days ago. which brings me to say it would be extremely cool to see the rest of Avalanche in KH, which would leave Barret, red XIII, Vincent Valentine(though we sorta got him in 1 through cloud's outfit), and Cait Sith.
