So I was told by a friend to play Kingdom Hearts since I like a bunch of JRPGS. I bought the 1.5 + 2.5 Remix and was just wondering what order to play them in. I heard the story was very confusing, so I didnt wanna play the story line wrong lmao. I searched it online and all the lists were very confusing. So I was just wondering if there was a simpler list.

    Kingdom Hearts Misconceptions

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I've noticed a large amount of misconceptions going around, and I wanted to clear up a few of the common ones I've seen. I may have a few bits of incorrect info, but most of these I can say with certainty.

    • Kingdom Hearts III took 13 years to develop
      • I know most people are memeing when they say this, but there is a surprising amount of people who actually believe this. While there was, in fact, a 13 year gap between KH2 and KH3, the game itself was not in production for that long. It started development shortly after Dream Drop Distance was released in 2012/2013
    • Kingdom Hearts III was supposed to be the final game
      • I'm surprised people believe this. Nomura has stated many times that KH3 was only the end of the Xehanort Saga, but the series and Sora's story will continue on
    • Nomura planned everything from the beginning/He made everything up as he went along
      • Wow, double whammy. This is very self-explanatory. Nomura had ideas and plans for future games, but he didn't have a large overview of what the story will become back when he made the first game or had no idea what to do next and just threw out ideas
    • The Guardian is Terra's Heartless
      • This misconception is very reasonable. Despite the Guardian looking like a Heartless, and it exists because Terra's heart succumbed to darkness, the Guardian is only the container for Terra's heart as we see that Terra's heart shifts through both Terranort and the Guardian one multiple occasions
    • The Lingering Will is Terra's "Nobody"
      • Of course, Terra's real Nobody is Xemnas as that is his body; however many assume that Lingering Will takes the role of a Nobody as it harbors Terra's soul. This is not the case. Lingering Will is exactly what it's name implies: the lingering thoughts and desires of Terra. A Nobody is one's body and soul, and Lingering Will bears neither. It is a being that exists from Terra's strong hatred towards Xehanort, his will.
    • The story is full of retcons
      • This is something that needs a lot of explanations. Many people talking about these "retcons" tend to mistake these for plot twists playing the long game. A retcon is something that provides new information, but retroactively contradicts/ignores previous materials. While there are retcons in Kingdom Hearts, the real ones are less often than people say. Here are four of the bigger examples:
        • Absolutely retcons: Young Xehanort was from before Xehanort learned to use a Keyblade (this was proven false in KH3 and DR as Scala Xehanort is notably younger than the age we know as Young Xehanort). Mickey banished Pete (I don't really need to explain. Goofy said Mickey banished Pete in KH2, but BBS told us it was Minnie who did so)
        • Maybe retcons: Ansem is not Ansem (Nomura likely never thought of Xehanort in KH1, but this is something we cannot say unless he says it himself)
        • Not retcons: Nobodies have hearts (This was alluded to in KH2, Re:CoM, and Days, showing that the idea of Nobodies having hearts wasn't Nomura did just to pull the rug from us in DDD)
    • Everyone aside from Master Xehanort in the Real Organization are time travelers.
      • While it wasn't the clearest before Re:Mind came out, some have not scene the very cutscene that explains everything in more simple terms.
        • The Nobodies (minus Xemnas) are from the present as they were recompleted after being destroyed by Sora, but agreed to be Nobodies again
        • The time travelers using replicas as vessels are Ansem, Xemnas, Young Xehanort, Vanitas, and Dark Riku (Riku Replica)
        • Xion was remade using the last replica of Vexen's original 20, and her heart from first joining the OG Org. until her present heart took the body for herself
        • Terranort is Terra's recompleted body with Terranort's time-travelling heart
    • Xion is a replica of Roxas
      • Xion is an imperfect replica of Sora made from the memories Xemnas gathered when he fought Sora in Hollow Bastion

If you've seen some common misconceptions I missed, I'd like to know

The idea behind Yozora and Verum Rex

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:19 PM PDT

Normally I don't get involved in such theories and leave the thinking to others, but this time I felt like doing it.

We don't know much about Yozora, only that he seemingly stems from a video game and has a connection with Sora. However, I'm led to believe that the Yozora we fight isn't the Yozora from Verum Rex. Enter "Falsus Rex" and "Verum Rex." I'm one to take what's shown to me at face value unless it's blatantly obvious that there's a different answer. This, along with a few other reasons is why I believe that the Yozora we fight isn't the same Yozora from VR and the one that people theorize about.

    • "Sora? You're Sora?"

Off the bat, I find it peculiar that F. Yozora questions who Sora is. Maybe this isn't much, as if you were told to save [name] you'd want to know if you got the right person. But F. Yozora likely had doubts if Sora was really himself or not. Why? F. Yozora later states that he's using this body but it isn't what he looks like. He seemed to be cautious to see if Sora was doing the same as he was, different heart in a different body. He even questions Sora on it later on.

Why is this important? A lot of theories I've seen speculate that Yozora might actually know a "Sora" from his world, namely that brown haired woman being taken away. If this was the case, then it begs the question: why didn't F. Yozora ask about the girl who told Sora about him? You would think that if he had any feelings for this brown haired woman, or "Sora," he would at the very least be concerned about her well being. I'd expect F. Yozora to go "girl? Who? What did she look like?" But instead this lends credence to the notion that F. Yozora isn't really Yozora. He doesn't really care that someone else told Sora about him, just that Sora knows him.

    • "But this isn't what I really look like."

Probably the most obvious answer that this Yozora isn't the one we see from VR. If only because he doesn't make any remarks about his allies or the girl from that trailer. Whoever is inside of Yozora's body can use his abilities but either doesn't have his memories (which I believe) or doesn't care for them. But even if he didn't care for the real Yozora's memories I would have a hard time believing that. The Nameless Star alludes to knowing F. Yozora, and that if he were in his original body he would be concerned about her. However, this is what seems odd about F. Yozora. Even if he didn't care for the real Yozora's memories, you would at least think he would be sympathetic towards the real Yozora for what happened to him. The real Yozora had someone taken from him and F. Yozora is looking for someone, likely a female. That may or may not be a reason why F. Yozora was able to take real Yozora's body, as they had a connection of sorts. But it still doesn't add up either way because if we believe Yozora to be the one from VR, then it's very strange that he makes no comment as to what happened in the commercial. Again, a large part of the reason why I believe that this Yozora isn't the one from VR.

    • "Why are you using Sora's name?"

At this point, I'm fully convinced that this Yozora is someone else and has no relation to the VR trailer apart from abilities. Not only does he not make any references to it whatsoever, but he doesn't even mention the girl or his friends as I've stated previously. Here is where I strongly believe that he's not asking Sora if he's him because of that girl. Instead, he is genuinely asking Sora if he's the real thing because he's under the impression that someone could be doing the same thing as him (different heart, different body). If he was really asking Sora about that girl, then why didn't he do so earlier in the conversation? And on top of that, he doesn't elaborate further about "using Sora's name" because if he did, that would at least mean there could be some connection to the trailer. But there isn't. If F. Yozora went out of his way to make sure Sora was the real thing, then I doubt he would leave it to chance to see if this Sora was the same "Sora" from VR. It doesn't add up.

    • "Then, my path is clear."

No remorse. F. Yozora will save Sora by force if necessary. But at no point does he show restraint if this Sora is the one from VR, and it's not even reflected in any of his battle quotes. He just has to stop Sora. But even after being defeated, F. Yozora drops a heartfelt smile at Sora before disappearing. If he really thought Sora was someone he knew, he would act differently.

    • "Verum Rex"/"Falsus Rex"

Not much here other than naming. I do find it interesting that the secret theater labels the intro as "Falsus Rex" instead of "Verum Rex". I'm sure by now most of you know the meaning of these two terms. The fact that they decided to put Falsus instead of Verum just adds more fuel to the fire that this Yozora has nothing to do with the one in Verum Rex, save for abilities. Maybe this one is false because, well, someone else is literally in his body. Thus, "false."

    So, to sum it up:

    • The Yozora we see in the VR trailer is not the one that we fight. It's someone else taking the form of him.

    • F. Yozora is connected to Sora somehow, as he triggered his Station of Awakening.

    • F. Yozora is may or may not have any recollection of the real Yozora's memories. If he does, he makes no mention of them.

    • Three potential links: Sora, Yozora and F. Yozora.

    Thoughts?
