About Yozora and the future of the KH series Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:25 PM PST I'm sure a decent amount of people have come to similar conclusions but I personally haven't seen this take in exactly this form: [Before I go further, I'd like to make the distinction of World (Disney World/Keyblade Graveyard/etc) and Universe (Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy/etc) clear] So, everyone is guessing at the fact that Yozora/Yozora's world is an alternate universe (or, more specifically, a parallel world), but it seems that they are just guesses. To add to this, I actually believe there's actually a decent amount of hard evidence for it. Nomura has tackled parallel worlds a few times before in recent memory, and I think if you look at all of it holistically, what we are seeing from ReMind should be a lot more clear: Once, in DDD, with the TWEWY crew. I always found their inclusion a bit weird and random. It felt like Nomura committed too hard on their presence there for them to be just there for fanservice (e.g. Having them introduce the very important flowmotion and drop systems) but at the same time deliberately didn't actually integrate them into the KH universe. It felt like they were there for a specific purpose, and now I believe that purpose was to shine a bit of a light on the concept of the "parallel universe" in KH. Second, was in Galaxy Toys in KH3. Once again, it's a parallel universe, and this one has not only Verum Rex (and how much Yozora "looks like Sora/Riku"). Aside from Yozora being introduced in a world that is in and of itself a parallel universe, Toy Story is the only time in the series that Sora is being addressed for what he really is: a videogame character. This sort of framing of Sora, in conjunction with Yozora also being framed as a videogame character, seems to me to be a pretty overt nod to the audience to take a step back and consider the medium in which Sora and more importantly, the universe of Kingdom Hearts resides. To top it all off, that very same world also has a pretty giant cameo in the Dissidia NT game. The game that deals with a bunch of characters from alternate universes coming together? All these things in isolation wouldn't bother me much, but put together? Thirdly, the end of the recent ReMind trailer/KH3's secret ending. And I do think this is a reference to a parallel universe mainly because of the way it's framed: Sora has clearly left the known universe from Chirithy 's speech in the trailer. However, despite this, Sora apparently doesn't arrive in wherever he ends up and meets Yozora. In the trailer, it's framed in such a way as though they are meeting each other half way. Coupled with that, is that they are both giving the "I've been having these weird dreams lately" speech, which I think is a dead giveaway as to Yozora's role. Sora has had parallels, but none of them have ever said that speech, the one that Sora gave at the beginning of the first game in the series. The one that introduces Sora as the main character of the series. The fact that Yozora gets to say it (and that Sora means "sky" while Yozora means "night sky"), I think it's fair to say that Yozora isn't just the "protagonist" of his own world (we could tell that much from Galaxy Toys) but will probably serve a protagonist role along with Sora in the future. Lastly, I'd like to touch on the Master of Masters a bit. Just a hunch really but, I and I'm sure many others suspected prior to Kingdom Hearts 3's release that he wouldn't be a main character in the game. I dunno, it just seemed like the game had so much to cover that they wouldn't have time to weave him into the story, and Xenahort was an adequate antagonist already (though I thought he might get Kaguya'd if you know what I mean lmao). With this in mind, I assumed he was setup for KH4 and it looks like that is the case. He interacts with the plot in a very... aloof nature. When he talked about the Keyblade War and other such events, it seemed like he didn't really give much of a shit to be honest. Like the war and Luxu and the fore tellers and everything were just a small cog he had to get going in a much larger machine. And then he just fucks off, like a thousand years before the series even starts and is never seen again. Where exactly did he go, and what has he been doing this whole time? Taking all of the above into account, and I know this is a longshot, but it's my conclusion that KH4 will deal heavily with the idea of the parallel universe, and not just the parallel universe, but the coalescing of different universes in a way similar to Dissidia (just in plot, not in gameplay or structure though), and that the MoM has been either jumping between universes, igniting events that would cause this coalescing or something to that effect. That's my guess of the plot's direction anyways. Probably some sort of game with the fate of their world scenario with a larger plan behind the scenes or something like that. I kinda feel like I'm off the mark in a few places but am mostly on the right track. Thoughts? [link] [comments] | ||
