    How to Make KH3 Even Better (Story/Mod Additions Discussion)

    (TLDR because there is a lot of text below: I like KH3, here are my ideas for improvement now that modding is in the picture. Skip to the bullet points below for the full list.)

    I want to preface this long post with a couple of things. Number one, I wanted to make it clear off the bat that I loved KH3 on release. I was fortunately not one of the people who were disappointed thoroughly and enjoyed myself greatly. With that said, even from the end of my first playthrough, I had some gripes and felt myself missing some aspects of the core series that I felt were noticeably absent.

    Over my many playthroughs of the game from that point on, I started to develop all kinds of ideas on what would truly make the game feel complete to me, and I imagine to many other longtime fans of the series. The release of Re:Mind was incredibly successful in dealing with many of my issues, especially ones that were postgame and combat related.

    That said, there were still many ways I could easily think of to improve the main campaign. Until recently, these would qualify basically as glorified fan fiction of my own personal KH3. However with the release of the game to PC and the incredible things I've seen with modding so far in just a short time, it's made me wonder if many of the things I'd thought up could eventually be made reality, which is really the reason for this post.

    I have basically zero experience with modding, and I'm not sure I have the time to put in the effort to both learn and bring all of this into existence. Furthermore, my financial situation isn't really one at the moment where I could easily commission a team to work on such a thing either (although as time goes on, this could change). Considering this, I would categorize this list less as a solid plan and more like an open proposal to the fanbase and KH modding community, an effort to at least get these ideas out there to see if other people would like to see these things as well, or maybe for someone with more modding experience to be inspired to try a few of these out. Even if this turned into a discussion of whether or not it's even possible that these could be done, that would be beneficial. (Side note, many of these ideas are NOT genius inspiration or never-been-thought-of type of thoughts; many have been discussed before I'm fairly certain. This is more a compilation of all those good ideas than anything else.)

    Either way, without further ado here are all the ways that have been rattling around in my head the past couple years on how KH3 could be made closer to the game everyone always dreamed it would be.

    • [ ] Restored/Altered 0.2 as Prologue (Most people know that 0.2 was originally KH3's opening, and I've always liked the idea. It would probably need to be shortened/altered in some ways though.)
    • [ ] Playable Riku on 0.2's RoD maps with Mickey as an ally before the early first Demon Tower fight
    • [ ] Twilight Town boundaries expanded (as they have already been in several mods)
    • [ ] Mysterious Tower map restored for each SDG visit
    • [ ] Play as Riku when he and the King visit Radiant Garden early on, make Merlin's House lead to Town Square, gate there leads to visitable Computer Room (Ansem's Study).

    (Changes like these last two are necessary in my opinion for making you feel like you're actually playing the game, and taking the characters to these areas instead of just watching cutscenes where they appear there.)

    • [ ] Coliseum matches, held in the giant empty (come on Square, it was so obvious) arena in Realm of the Gods, are accessible by talking to Zeus at the following points in the game:

    ——Hermes Cup——: Unlocked after completing first World Map zone

    ——Athena Cup——: Unlocked after completing 100 Acre Wood

    ——Apollo Cup——: Unlocked after completing second World Map zone (possibly Apollo himself as Final Match?)

    ——Zeus Cup——: Unlocked after reaching Stairway to the Sky (Big Hades-Paradox style, 50 match cup at battle level 99)

    • [ ] Young Xehanort quick fight with only SDG in Toy Box after his line, "You would say that, champion of light." The cutscene would resume in the same spot afterward after hitting a certain HP barrier.
    • [ ] Similar early Marluxia fight on the beach(?) right after his line, "It's lights out for you." The underrated track Graceful Assassin plays during the fight. Afterward cutscene resumes with Sora getting hit with the sleepy dust.
    • [ ] Randall boss fight before or after the kind of lame Lump of Horror who would be enhanced as more of a part 2, or additional part, of a fight; think Clayton and the Stealth Sneak. (This one is likely impossible to add but no Randall boss fight was by far the most disappointing part of the game for me so I had to include it.)
    • [ ] Similar to the previous Organization changes, a quick Vanitas boss fight with SDG after his line, "Now you will return Ventus to me." Cutscene resumes with Sora hit by darkness.
    • [ ] Anti-Aqua's moves are changed to be Zodiac Aqua's, making it a better equivalent of the extremely challenging boss fight towards the end of the game that the Roxas fight was in KH2.

    • [ ] Another new zone is unlocked at the same time as The Eclipse, which features three worlds you can just access without having to fly to: Destiny Islands, Mysterious Tower, and Radiant Garden. Sora also spawns alone on these worlds.

    ——On Destiny Island, just the one beach area is explorable. Riku is in his classic KH1 spot, and talking to him gives you the option to spar with him (he gives a potion upon defeat, but hopefully more than 5EXP). Kairi is on the main beach by the door and will spar with you as well. These two would disappear once you reached Keyblade Graveyard leaving the islands empty on a revisit.

    ——Mysterious Tower, still only the outside area, features Aqua and Ventus with the chance to train with them as well. Would also disappear on revisit after reaching Keyblade Graveyard.

    ——As a side note, Lea would be available to fight in front of Sunset Station. (Mickey can't be sparred with because you definitely aren't allowed to fight Mickey Mouse.) Would also disappear on revisit after reaching Keyblade Graveyard.

    ——In Radiant Garden only Merlin's House and the Town Square are available to Sora. After arriving at the save point in Merlin's house (empty so as not to contradict any later story points in Re:Mind), you would have the option to go out the door which would take you to the Square. Doing so will trigger the arrival of Sephiroth and a subsequent fight (the other of my biggest disappointing absences in the game). Beating him awards you some awesome FF7-related keyblade in a chest that appears in the middle of the area.

    • [ ] The Platinum Intergrade Cup (get it?) would unlock at Realm of the Gods after beating Sephiroth so you could refight him whenever you wanted in the Olympus arena.

    • [ ] During the 1000 enemy successor fight, all of the Seven Lights are viewable fighting with you (even if it has to be beyond the barriers and in the background, just so you can see them for the spectacle of it).

    • [ ] When Aqua tells Mickey, Kairi, and Goofy to watch the others, she and Riku actually stand and fight (yes, unbelievable right?) with Sora as party members. This would be a boss fight against a hyper aggressive Demon Tide who you can damage, but it's health regenerates infinitely. (Since this is a video game, this would put us in an active way in the characters' shoes and make us actually feel and understand the helplessness that permeates the next cutscene.) After a set time or enough invisible damage is done, the cutscene would resume with the gigantic heartless tornado forming.

    • [ ] The updated music for the Kairi "death" cutscene is the same until "The Key to Darkness" plays the original way it sounds in BBS. (This is a tiny nitpick but it drove me crazy they improved half the scene's music but then opted to go for a much less powerful version of the second piece for the most climactic moment of Xehanort's plan. Just don't get the thinking behind the change.)

    • [ ] An additional possible change would be changing the subtitles during Xehanort's final speech in order to align better with the proper, less contradictory translation and help with a lot of confusion. Unfortunately these would obviously most likely have to be un-voiced, which is why it's more of a maybe to me.

    In my opinion, KH3's postgame is sufficient at this point with the addition of Re:Mind, so most of these changes, besides a few, are ideas to try to increase the number of optional things to do during the story, an area I felt KH3 was somewhat lacking in that could make it feel more fleshed out.

    Modders, let me know what you think about how possible any of this is, I understand most all would be a lot of work, and some would be impossible overall. Everybody else, tell me what you think and any ideas you have I might have missed. Excited to see what people think.

    Edit: Forgot to add, implementation of the new Re:Mind abilities for a first playthrough (already an existing mod) would be an absolutely essential inclusion for this kind of overhaul I guess you'd say. Also, thank you u/SanzokuIV for the silver, I appreciate it!

    Idea: A world that is mutually fictional to the Kingdom Hearts world

    Quadratum is seen as a fictional world (Toy Box), and was accessed in the DLC iirc, but is one way. How about a world that is fictional in the KHVerse, but in that world, KH exists as videogames? Could lead to a character explaining the Multiverse Theory and the concept of mutually fictional realms, or a major ally playing the game they are currently in, leading to Sora being utterly confused. Could also involve humour about video game logic (like said character being stuck on the boss they are about to fight) and 4th wall breaks (ally using Sora's HP thing as a weapon).

    Edit: The boss can even be the game-playing ally linking her Switch to Sora, confident that she can beat the boss with the real deal, kinda like the transitions of some STBlackST videos

    So my fiancé and I are going to decorate our tabletops with the stained glass images from KH. We can't seem to find many high res pictures for us to blow up. Anyone have a suggestion on where we could find some that are higher than 800x800?
