    I think i figured out why some time travellers have developed complete and total amnesia of their past lives (KHUx finale spoilers)

    I figured out why the time travellers, Ventus, Lauriam, Elrena and Subject X all developed a complete loss of their past lives.

    It's the Lifeboat, the Lifeboat itself is the cause of it.

    Think about it:

    • There are hints that Ephemer never lost his memory (the deep knowledge that the people of Scala have about the secrets of the Age of Fairy Tales, expecially about the Book, Ephemer's use of the Master's Defender as shown by the statue). Furthermore due to him exiting directly out the pod, unlike all of the others, it seems to imply that it malfunctioned, never actually traveling to the future or moving at all, and it just acted as a shield against the destruction of Daybreak Town.
    • Brain also likewise retained his life's memorie but if you count the pods, you will realize that even thou Brain time travelled to Scala ad Caelum, He never used the lifeboat to do so, he never even stepped inside one of the pods there were not enough for him to do so.(Here is the math: 7 pods in the real world; 3 goes to Lauriam, Ventus, Elrena; 1 to the True Dandelion; 1 for Maleficent; 2 for Ephemer and Skuld. That's all of them)
    • Ventus, Lauriam, Elrena, Subject X all of them instead completely lost their memories, the latter three even becoming unable to summon their keyblades.

    If we really were to assume that neither Ephemer nor Brain used the Lifeboat to travel to the future (the former not travelling at all be it through time or space, the latter not using the Lifeboat to time travel) then it stands to reason to assume that it's an inherit flaw of the Lifeboat itself that has the effect of making their passengers amnesiac.

    This is supported by the fact that according to Darkness, if Luxu were to use the Lifeboat to travel to the future the plan of the Master would be ruined, not only because No Name wouldn't be able to relay the events of the future to the past, making the creation of the Book impossible but presumably also because, having lost his memories, Luxu would not only not know what to do, but also it would negate the Master of his memory holder necessary to reform his body into the future.

    And to top it all off, even when Apprentice Terra-Xehanort used a functioning recreation of the Lifeboat (BTW, how was this device recreated at all is still a mystery), one which unlike the first did not tore the body of the passenger to shreds, to send Kairi in the Ocean Between in order to use her as a compass to find a keyblade wielder, the young girl still lost all of her memories of her life in Radiant Garden.

    Yet if this is true then you might ask, why Maleficent retained her life's memories despite her use of one of the pods?

    That is because, unlike the rest of the other passengers, Maleficent was already time displaced, her journey having started not thanks of the Lifeboat but because she got stabbed by the Keyblade of Heart. Her heart was already protected by that point and the Lifeboat did not had any effect on her, it just freed again her heart from the body for her to return to KH2.
