    Hot take: Simple and Clean is significantly better than Hikari

    Please hear me out!

    Disclaimer: this take has nothing to do with lyrical content. I am solely comparing the songs compositionally.

    I know many of you prefer Hikari to its English counterpart Simple and Clean. I can respect that, as each of the songs has their strengths and weaknesses. However I propose that Simple and Clean is the stronger of the two tracks for a few reasons:

    • The lead vocal melody is much more complex, dynamic and unique. Rather than repeating the same initial melody literally three times in a row, Simple and Clean opens with an elegantly climbing, ascending melody that builds and climaxes beautifully. For those who have studied composition, the note intervals on the "when you walk away, you don't hear me say" melody are so unusual and unique. Ironically, it's a lot less simple, melodically, despite sounding so much less cluttered.

    • The "please, oh baby" melody is such a cathartic and necessary breather from the lead melody. The space between notes really lends to the emotion of the track. There is room to linger on these notes, which also emphasizes the tone of Hikaru's vocals.

    • The song is overall much less "crammed" with syllables and notes. Hikaru has actually stated that the rhythm and melody used in the English version was the original! Lyrics aside, Simple and Clean is actually more faithful to her original vision of the track.

    As a composer myself, it saddens me to see so many claim that Hikari is superior simply because it's the "original version". Simple and Clean has a lot going for it that make it more compositionally unique and complex.

    If anyone would be interested in seeing a more technical / music theory breakdown of the two tracks and what makes Simple and Clean the more complex and (IMO) effective of the two, let me know! I don't mind busting out some sheet music to demonstrate what I mean.

    So I drew my KH OC in Namora's style. I plan on coloring it at some point, but I also loath coloring so why post the line art now?

    This is Xealx. She has short term memory loss and is kinda a curious space-case. I used to have a barley there backstory for her, but now she just kinda exists as a character I draw sometimes.

    KH2 “Secret” ending cutscene

    By the time I played KH2 all the way through to the end and didn't get stuck on Xaldin as a 10 year old, BBS had released and I knew that the next game was a prequel. Having just finished KH2FM once again and watching that final cutscene I am trying to imagine the hysteria that originally ensued when the game ended and that was all people had as a hint of the next game. Probably assuming Sora Riku Kiari were the three figures in these iron man esque suits of armor all wielding key blades with other random blades strewn everywhere. Must've been a frenzy of theories and whatnot online at the time

    Chain of Memories is stopping me from progressing through the series

    I'm the type of person who prefers to play games starting from beginning in release order if they are available to me. I have played KH1, KH2, and BBS in the original release in PS2 and PSP and loved all of them.

    Now i have 1.5, 2.5, 2.8 and 3. Platinumed KH1 few years ago, but never got the willpower to push through CoM.

    I'm still very early in the game, just beat Axle which is second boss in the game i think

    Not asking for advice, just want to share this lol.
