Birth by Sleep deserves a remake one day, here's why

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 01:05 PM PST

Obviously I don't want such a thing to happen before the new developments in the games (the next non numbered title and KH4), but I wholeheartedly believe that it would be beneficial to remake Birth by Sleep one day. I always wished it was originally made for the PS3 but now that new assets have been created for KH3 such as the Land of Departure, Thebes in Olympus, parts of Castle of Dreams and Dwarf Woodland in 0.2, Stitch, Radiant Garden, etc. it could be a fun opportunity to fully realize the story of Birth by Sleep without hardware limitations, as well as perhaps explore some things about Xehanort that Nomura said he would have liked to do before KH3.

Gameplay-wise, Square could largely use the same engine as KH3. I feel like Command Styles could easily carry over to the Situation Command system, and the various unique moves such as Surges and Time Splicer could be made into either combo modifiers or finisher situation commands under a style ala Second Form.

Especially with new context and more defined story regarding the age of fairy tales, characters like Ven, Braig, Xehanort, and Eraqus could all get some extra scenes or lore added to the story. Not too much, but to help ingrain the roots that the current world has to the age of fairy tales.

Birth by Sleep has such a great atmosphere and story premise, and watching old trailer footage of it just makes me want it even more than a KH1 or even a Days remake. To be able to have it in UE4 would be a godsend and a way for people who haven't or can't get into the PSP or ported versions of BBS to get to know the characters. The art direction really suffered from what I assume was a need to brighten up all the colors and oversaturate them to make them stand out on the PSP graphics. With good lighting, textures, and updated models I believe that a BBS remake would be one of THE best Kingdom Hearts games of all time.

Lemme know what you think, thanks for reading!

[KHII] Something I just noticed [KHIII Spoiler]

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:04 PM PST

Is it just me, or is the animation of Sora deflecting Xehanort's χ-Blade beam at the end of the final battle identical to the animation for Counterguard from KHII?

What will the next KH game be?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:38 PM PST

My idea was a BBS type game with the Destiny Trio (except you wouldn't play it through three times. You would instead switch at set points. Similar to KH3 just more often.)

Sora's story would be based on playing a game ran by the Master of Masters in Shibuya. He meets the MoM several times throughout his journey and works with Yozora. Both are playing for a chance to enter the real world again. Sora wants to go home to his friends, but Yozora wants to enter the real world to get to Kingdom Hearts so he can revive his world. It would be a fight to the death between the two of them at the end. (Yozora wanting to revive his own world isn't my original idea. I heard it on youtube somewhere but don't remember where, lol. Regardless, I like it!)

Riku's story is harder to figure out. He would go to Shinjuku and inevitably meet up with Sora, MoM, and Yozora at some point, idk.

Lastly is Kairi. Similar to how BBS had three main characters, but Aqua stuck out as the overall lead, Kairi will do the same. She'll visit multiple Disney worlds/KH original worlds such as Radiant Garden and Twilight Town alongside Donald and Goody in search for Sora. Kairi feels responsible for Sora's disappearance and is determined to become stronger. I imagine there'd be some AMAZING banter between Kairi, Donald, and Goofy. In addition to getting stronger, Kairi would also learn more about her past and the memories will start coming back to her as the journey goes on. As for what worlds she would visit, I was thinking (if they are structured like KH3 worlds) Olympus, the incredibles, inside out, Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, and eventually Shibuya since she will be the one to save Sora. (I imagine they'd save stuff like Moana and Zootopia for KH4. Thats why they aren't listed)

Anyway, that's just my idea. Anyone else got anything?

How do you rank the Data Org on Critical?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:34 PM PST

So I beat them all for the first time on Critical and for some reason I found them way easier than they were on Proud. It took me a very long time to beat them on Proud because I would put the game down for a while and come back to it due to various reasons. But I knocked them all out in under 3 days on Critical lmao. I recorded the ones I could take down without items or forms (save for Demyx because only a masochist wouldnt use Wisdom Form with him and Roxas because I didnt get the reaction command) for my YT channel just for fun.

Anyway, how would you rank these guys on Critical? For me, easiest to hardest with some room for swapping up or down a position:

    1. Axel. I got the fight down pretty well in my Proud mode playthrough so he wasnt too bad here, just had to remember what to do. Im surprised people seem to have so much trouble with him but Im sure there are people that have fights I have trouble with down pat. His attack where he sneaks up behind you is the only thing that still gets me, otherwise hes fun and easy.
    2. Lexaeus. Same deal, probably just as easy, he just happened to be the second one I went for rather than the first. As long as you get his reaction command every time, hes not so bad really.
    3. Larxene. She killed me a few times until I remembered to use reflect lol. She can be hard with how fast she is but she goes down FAST with reflect and just hitting her and her clones all at the same time.
    4. Xaldin. Spam triangle while in the air jumping over his attacks then let loose. Pretty easy as well. I remember having a lot of trouble with him on Proud so this surprised me lol
    5. Zexion. He has a few tricky attacks that I still dont get how to dodge reliably, especially the spotlight thing. I swear its random. Took a few tries.
    6. Luxord. Okay this is where things started to get kinda hard for me. He only took a few tries as well because hes easy until that damn mini-game with the O's and X's... I swear that last one is nearly random.
    7. Saix. The only hard part about this fight is grabbing the Claymore before it disappears in less than a second. That was frustrating. Most of his attacks are easily avoidable though but trying not to use forms or items, he killed me a few times when I tried to grab one.
    8. Marluxia. This must be a nightmare on level 1. I can dodge his attacks reliably now, even his DM if I use reflect at the end to block the last hit, but I think his health bar is what causes me to lose against him. It feels like it takes a long time and evading and dodging his attacks for that long was hard for me.
    9. Xigbar. I cannot guard his shots reliably so I just spam reflect. The hardest part for me was not his DM, in fact I can avoid that pretty easily, its the part where he teleports up to the balcony and snipes you. I found that if I block too much, I cant hit triangle to use "break" so I would just get hit or it would keep going. I need a bit more practice with him, he killed me a few times.
    10. Demyx. Ugh, the fucking water dancers. No surprise there. As I said above, only a masochist wouldnt use Wisdom Form against him. I find some of his attacks difficult to dodge as well. I found out the hard way (or remembered ig since Ive done these twice but only on Proud) that you cant kill him until he brings the water dancers back out.
    11. Roxas. Not as hard as I was expecting but still pretty tough. I can hold my ground just fine until he starts using lasers with his normal attacks but mostly the attack where he spins his blades in a circle kept killing me. Still dont fully get how to act against that. How do you get him to do the reaction command?
    12. Vexen. Holy shit this one was tough. The data analyzer thing under Sora's feet fills up very quick (thank god they patched the 60fps glitch thing with this fight before I got the game or it would be nearly impossible lol) and Anti Sora keeps distracting me. Annoying ass DM. I feel like I kept getting interrupted fighting him.
    13. Xemnas. Well thank fuck they fixed the reaction command not working. Its still pretty hard though since theres 2 forms. The first one I can reliably guard/maneuver around all his attacks until a certain point where he starts teleporting away before you can hit him. I ended up using Limit form to speed through it because I hated having to redo the first form over and over when I die to form 2. I got the reaction command on the building every single time. Form 2 is intense though. Again, thank fuck they fixed that reaction command thing for PS4, idk how I did it on PS3 proud mode when that was broken and never patched. He has very short windows where you can hit him. Still a fun fight, just hard.

I think overall 11 out of 13 of these are actually fun. Maybe 10 because Saix is just a pain grabbing the Claymores, but namely Demyx and Luxord's fights are just painful. In the end, I had a lot of fun fighting them for the silver crown and I'll continue to fight them every now and then just for a fun challenge and to eventually get better at all of them. I really love when games have optional post game super bosses like these. One of the many reasons KH2FM is my favorite in the series and likely always will be.

I am so stoked for the KH3 Data Fights!!! I have a Proud and Critical file both ready and waiting for the DLC so I can get good at them on Proud and then fuck em up on Critical. I hope they're even better than 2FM's fights. For now, on to Lingering Will! I beat him at least twice on Proud but with very high stats I synthed boosts for so we'll see how I do lol

Theory about the revival of the Foretellers

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:26 PM PST

We know from various games in the series that the removal of one's heart is possible, as is melding multiple hearts into one body. What if Luxu or the Master of Masters melded the hearts of the Foretellers into the bodies of Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, Larxene, and Xion Mk II? Upon the destruction of an Organization member, the freed heart of a Foreteller allows their recompletion, which occurs on the world that the original person was divided. Could Xion's continued existence be why Ava hasn't returned yet?

Listening to KH music right before my 18th birthday

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 03:58 PM PST

Man, this has me in my feels. Kingdom Hearts reminds me a lot of my childhood memories. My 18th birthday is in a couple hours and I'm gonna be an adult soon. I remember playing the opening destiny islands section so many times when I was little because I lost my memory card, and later beating the rest of series. Good times.
