    Nomura said that the reveal of Toy Story alongside a release window counted as "standard news". If he's saying that the next trailer is going to be exciting, then we should all be concerned for what that mad man has in store for us this time. I don't know if my heart can handle it...

    Is Nomura too simplistic of a writer when it comes to character arcs?

    Obviously Nomura is far from simplistic when it comes to crafting the overarching story and lore of the series, but when it comes to a lot of the characters he seems to only want to write them in a very specific way.

    Now, I love the characters in Kingdom Hearts, but I find it hard to deny that Nomura comes up with a role for a lot of them and keeps them in it. Without any change to their characters. For example Sora is written as a generic Disney hero, while Riku is written like a FF protagonist. Kairi is written as a classic, stereotypical Disney Princess, while Aqua is also written as a Final Fantasy protagonist. There are exceptions to this such as Roxas. Axel, and most villains, but he seems to like to stick to simple roots when it comes to a lot of the characters.

    I'll use Sora as an example. Most people feel like Sora is fine the way he is, and he doesn't need to go through a "character arc". They always say anything other than a "hopeful Sora" would be out of character. But my question is, why does it have to be this way? I'm not asking for him to be an angsty edgelord, I'm asking for some emotional depth. And no, him breaking down a few times isn't adding emotional depth if nothing about his character changes after his "break down" he hasn't gone through any development. Just being sad for 10 minutes and then reverting back to sunshine and rainbows is a waste. Most of all, I just want him to mature a bit. Now, I know the response to this will be something like "stop dissing my favorite character! He's not written to have depth, or be relatable in anyway! He's written as a good Disney anime hero who goes on adventures with Donald and Goofy! Nothing needs to change!" But guys, we've had a whole saga, 17 years of games with Sora like this. Is it not time for some growth? Some maturity? Am I alone here? Do we really just want the same characters, with the same personality traits, rehashed to us for another 15 years?

    I've pointed this out before, but one other thing I can't stand about Nomura's character writing is that instead of just building off his established characters, he just introduces new ones to meet the demands of fans. For instance:

    Fans: We want Kairi to be stronger and stand on her own!

    Nomura: Have Aqua.

    Fans: We want Sora to be darker!

    Nomura: Have Vanitas.

    Fans: We don't like Namine as a love interest for Roxas! They have no chemistry!

    Nomura: Have Xion.

    I digress.

    This was a really random late night rant and I probably said some stupid stuff. Sorry for trashing Sora for a whole paragraph. I still love him.

    God I hope it becomes an actual world that we can explore in the DLC or the future. It's too damn pretty and interesting to just be a final boss arena.

    To put it in perspective I loved BBS. Loved KH3D. KH1 and KH2 go without saying. Days I went in just trying to figure out who Xion was. KH3 comes around and I felt like it owed me something... I waited for worlds to be announced that never showed up and feeling 'meh' about some of the worlds that did.... judgements I never placed on any previous games in the series. Waited for scenes to happen that didn't.

    I love KH3 for what it is, but dislike it for what it's not. I think that finally being able to play it means that I can go back into the series with an open mind.
