One thing I really like about KH1 is how Darkness is portrayed essentially as a force of nature. Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:12 PM PDT This is especially obvious in the End of the World. The darkness there was creating weird rock formations, craggy, organic webbing, these wild pulsating energy storms, etc. It's scary, but it's also beautiful, in a way. It seems both strangely alive, yet unexpectedly... I don't know. Impartial? Uncaring? Like, the darkness itself isn't evil, it just is. Like radiation, or entropy, it's a physical law of the KH universe, dangerous, but not malicious. It grows like mold, not because it is evil, but because the conditions are favorable, and it is in the nature of mold to spread. Likewise, the Heartless themselves can't truly even be considered evil; they are basically animals. The highest plane their thinking reaches is that of a particularly crafty predator. They aren't malicious, they are simply hungry, and we just happen to be their food. The true evil in the story are the intelligent denizens of the world who seek to use the darkness for their own ends. They actively seek to create and enhance the conditions for darkness to grow, they seek to cultivate, manipulate, and control the heartless to accomplish their own ends. Like nuclear fission or fusion; the process itself is not evil, it's just physics. What's evil is the process of using that to create a bomb to kill people. I just think that's cool. It also makes the darkness feel very mysterious and unexplored, in a way that makes it totally believable that a scientist like Ansem would become dangerously fascinated with it. Why do some people want less Disney in their Disney game? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:41 PM PDT I've seen the idea of Kingdom Hearts phasing out the Disney stuff be thrown around here and there, especially after Melody of Memory, but I seriously cannot understand why. Do people just not understand why Disney is solely credited on merch or the fact Disney characters are major characters? Hell, Disney is placed first on every logo. It makes me so confused that, after 19 years, there are still people who don't understand that KH is a Disney game developed by Square Enix. Without Disney, it's not Kingdom Hearts [link] [comments]
Imo: the oringal CoM on the GBA is still the superior way to play the game Posted: 14 Mar 2021 10:31 AM PDT I remember seeing commercials for original CoM. I was so hyped, got for Christmas that year it came. Fired up the gameboy advanced. And boy HOWDY let me tell you how excited I was that squeal literally picks up when the first game ends. That opening cgi scene chef's kiss then unfolding to castle oblivion. I was bit thrown off with the cards, but once you learn the combat system on the GBA. Its still one of the freshest and challenging gameplay I've ever had in my life and I still refuse to touch the abysmal Re:CoM. The story, introduction of the organization before the whole 13, everything about the GBA version is what I call a perfect squeal.. and then comes Kh2. But that's for another post. Question about how getting hit in KH2 works... Posted: 15 Mar 2021 12:20 AM PDT https://twitter.com/Minishroom1231/status/1371330993886437377?s=20 The video I'm sharing here shows me doing the Roxas fight, but after I get hit by one of the pillars of light in his attack, for a period of time Roxas' attack, as well as the other pillars, don't do any damage despite registering as a hit even after I act out of stagger (as you can tell from Sora's portrait). I have a theory that KH2 has a system in place that prevents more than one enemy from comboing you at a time (with the exception of a few attacks from a few enemies that are meant to work in groups, like Armored Knights), because I have encountered this phenomenon several times, where enemy attacks register as hitting but no damage or knockback occurs (e.g. the relentless mines attack from the Crimson Jazz not damaging me after another Crimson Jazz knocks me into the air, Morning Stars spinning into me and doing no damage when I'm being punched by another Morning Star, Night Walkers twirling into me right after I get wrecked by an Assault Rider's spin attack and not damaging, etc). In this case, the light pillar must have counted as its own "combo", separate from Roxas' own attack (as well as the other pillars), leading to what we see here. However, I have never seen anyone else online talking about something like this, when I feel like this kind of mechanic is exactly what future games like BBS, DDD and KH3 needed considering how problematic mob fights can be at times, with two or more enemies being able to attack you at the same time, with none of the damage being scaled, stunlocking you and on Critical mode often killing you instantly from full health as a result. I have very little programming knowledge, so I have no idea what is going on in the code that's leading to this, and it's possible that it's something that occurs only on the modern ports of this game as I don't remember if this happened in the original as well (though I think it does), or maybe I'm just making a wrong assumption. Does anyone else have any ideas? I would also like to refer you to the first episode of NicoB's Kingdom Hearts 2 Lets Play on Youtube, where around 1:14:50, he gets hit by a vine in the Twilight Thorn fight, and is knocked into a Creeper's sword attack (you can see that he does get hit by it from Roxas' portrait), but no damage or knockback is dealt (and he's allowed to Aerial Recovery after getting "hit" by the sword attack). There are probably a bunch more examples online, but I can't be bothered to list them all out. [link] [comments]

Could “Dearly Beloved” have meant something? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 10:33 PM PDT When I was a kid, I always thought the reason why the song "Dearly Beloved" (one of the most beautiful musical pieces in gaming) was called with that name because of a subtle, forseeing nod that Sora and Kairi might end up getting married or something in the really really really ending part of the entirety of the series. when the franchise will be at its final page of the book. But that was because I loved their connection very much and I've always loved romantic stories in video games, but romance love was never the message of Kingdom Hearts, the concept was always friendship. ever since the beginning of the series, but with all this confusing and convoluting nomura-esque story going on right now (and getting stronger) I don't see it happening. If my childhood assumption isn't correct, then why is the song called "Dearly Beloved"? Is there a reason or a meaning behind it? Romance was never the idea of this series. At all So why? Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:32 PM PDT Does anyone else hate they formatted both games into 'movies' instead of actual games for the Story So Far? When I was kid those were the first two games I played so when I had the chance to play them on PS4 I was so excited but then heart broken because I couldn't [link] [comments] |
