To me kh2 was the end of phase 1 and bbs the start of 2

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 08:54 PM PDT

I know Nomura himself is saying the next few titles are the 2nd phase of kh but to me the first phase ended with 2 due to at the time how complete that ending was. BBS while a prequel felt more like the start of a new story arc with old man xehanort introduction and how that plot thread would carrying forward all the way to 3. I know kh1 to 3 was ultimately all connected to old xehanort but that's no different then how phase 1 and 3 of the MCU are connected to thanos and his army as he gave it to Loki in 1. So to me it feels like we're starting phase 3 of kh but what do the rest of you think?

Question about modding KH on PC

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 10:24 PM PDT

I see a lot of people getting excited about modding, I wonder what people are thinking of when they say modding. Will there be an uncap FPS mod? I'm assuming an uncap FPS mod probably because I've played Skyrim SE at 240fps. Would be great if I can play these games at 240fps. Also, how many of you are actually going to buy the series on Epic Games?

Hesitant about buying melody of memory

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 07:24 PM PDT

So I've been a KH fan since the first game, and I've played every game in the series to date except coded, the mmo browser game (whose name escapes me), re:mind, and now melody of memory. Thing is I'm not a fan of rhythm games in general and from what I understand melody of memory is just a recap game. So is it worth playing? Like is there anything new added to the story?

Will The PlayStation Store Do Deals This Easter for The Kingdom Heart Titles

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 09:15 PM PDT

Hello my fellow guardians of light, I wanted to find out if Kingdom Hearts III ReMind & Kingdom Hearts All-In-One will be on sale this Easter in the PlayStation store because I wanted to get it but wanted to save a few pounds. If this is not possible to get I'm still willing to pay for it at full price.

    Peace out Keyblade Warriors.

A review of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days from somebody who just beat it about 4 hours ago.

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 05:16 PM PDT

I played Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on my New Nintendo 3DS, patched to make DS games look crisper due to the NN3DS being notorious for making DS games look blurry. I played on Standard Difficulty. I also barely did anything more than what was need to complete the story.

Almost 4 months ago I made a review of Kingdom Hearts 3 on this subreddit. In it, I'm claimed that I played every single KH game in the series before KH3 (Not including the Mobile game), well that was kind of a lie. I watched the Cutscenes for CoM and honestly skipped 358/2 Days. Well until now of course.

How do I describe KHDays? It's like a really good book that you want to read. But in order to read a couple of pages, you have to complete a or a series of household chores like washing dishes, and sometimes something a little more fun like killing ants. Sure you may not mind it at first, but by the time you're halfway done with the book you're just starting to half-ass cleaning the dishes, and your ok with letting some ants live. I'm aware I made that sound very negative towards the game, but that's just how I feel after playing the game non-stop trying to beat it before the PC ports come out.

I beat the game in just below 30 hours, at Level 50. I don't really see myself returning to this game at all.

    STORY:

Blah Blah Make make sure you play or Watch the "Movies" of the games released before this one...or don't? But also do. It's a Prequal that takes place between KH1 and KH2 while also having CoM events occur during it as well. Confusing? Yeah, same here. It also came out after KH2 which makes it even weirder.

Ok enough making fun of the release order. I actually really like this game's story. It takes knowledge of CoM Organization and KH2 Organization to really understand what's going on and to understand the characters better. I won't get into spoilers, but man did I feel sad at the end.

    GAMEPLAY:

Combat in KHDays is weird, It tries to play more like a KH game on console rather than adapting the gameplay to work better for fewer buttons. One example is switching through Attack, Magic, and Items, use the X button, since there's no extra D-pad. (Sure you can hold X and use the D-pad to change options but in the heat of the moment you aren't thinking of that.) Which unfortunately leads to a more simplistic combat style. That's not a bad thing, in fact, it works better for the DS than if it were on console. But much of the Combat feels like it's just spamming the A button and using Magic when the enemy stands still. Granted many of the bosses do a good job at avoiding the "spam A to win" trope.

However, combat isn't the big thing I want to focus on here. One thing I never mentioned in my other reviews was the gameplay loop because it was always fine in the other games. Then we have KHDays. This is where my analogy of doing housework comes in. The game is broken up into Missions rather than fully explorable worlds, each mission usually blocks off certain rooms and pathways to make sure you go directly to your mission goal (although sometimes it does let you explore most places). The problem is these missions never really have much variety in terms of the goal or even scenery in some cases. "Here's a mission requiring you to collect hearts in Twilight Town, for the 3rd time." "Here's a mission requiring you to go to Agrabah, for the 10th time." And occasionally there are missions that are just story bits, but you don't get those often. I know I'm complaining about the mission structure but it's so repetitive! There are over 90 missions in the game that are split up between 7 worlds! And I swear most of them happen in Agrabah.

Ok...I don't want to rant about that anymore. I forgot to mention the panel mechanic. What sets this somewhat apart from the other games is the panel system. You are awarded panels as you play the game and you can purchase and synthesize panels via Heart Points/Munny and materials. Most panels starting off are one slot big, however as you progress you can receive panels that are bigger and allow for linking. Linking makes the base panel stronger in some way depending on what's linked. It's like fitting together a puzzle to maximize how powerful Roxas can be. My only gripe with this is that you can't rotate panels to fit them better with others. I suppose you can't as a means of stopping the player from becoming overpowered, but then the command system in BBS, Re:Coded, and DDD can be broken to hell and back, so screw me I guess.

    SOUND:

You can tell that this was the first KH game on the DS. Most music sounds fine in this game, but a select few don't quite sound right on the DS sound chip. The biggest example to me is Beasts Castle. You really can't take orchestrated music and expect to always get good results and trying to make it into DS music. Most of it sounds good don't get me wrong, but a few instances that don't sound right that's all.

    GRAPHICS:

I think this game looks really good. I'm honestly surprised with how much the game doesn't look bad. Not quite sure what I mean by that. I mean obviously, it's not comparable to the console games. But for a DS game, it's doesn't look half bad, enough said.

    FAVORITE WORLD:

Twilight Town - This is an Obvious pick I know, but how could I not choose this World. It's the one world you return to for most of the game, and not for missions mind you, again no spoilers for a 12-year-old game. Twilight Town Looks great, has great music, and just...it's great.

    LEAST FAVORITE WORLD:

Agrabah - Honestly I could have picked any one of the worlds in this game, with how repetitive each one gets. But Agrabah sticks out like a sore thumb in my head. The same music over and over. The same color of Yellow over and over. The same rooms over and over. I swear there are at least 4 missions requiring you to collect hearts.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

It's a shame really. I did kind of want to enjoy KHDays, especially due to the great story it has. But its repetitive nature makes me not want to replay the game anytime soon. But with the PC ports of the Kingdom Hearts games coming in just over a week now, I know I'm going to replay The games again. This includes Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix. I feel like I'm ready to play the game again. Even with its annoyances, I think I can give it another chance and see if I'll like it more this time.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my ramblings once again. I hope you have a good day/night/whatever time it currently is.
