Just finished KH3 and just... wow

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:41 PM PDT

Actually experiencing the story for myself instead of just sampling the cutscenes, the story honestly just "worked" for me.

The KH worlds, in terms of plot relevance, felt closer to 2 than 1 in the moment, but in post, they all tied to the Seekers plans: 3 princesses of Heart located in Corona and Arendelle, reforming Vanitas in Monstropolis, searching for the Box in Olympus and the Caribbean, and returning to the study of the heart in ToyBox and SanFransokyo.

By the end of the Disney worlds, Sora went from being the punchline, too weak for Maleficent to even bother facing him, to being addressed as CAPTAIN Sora in the age of sail, and being a source of inspiration, guidance, and admiration from Big Hero 6. He may not be as physically strong as he was at the end of 2 in his Skyscraper cleaving might, but neither is MX as physically strong as Terranort. For both hero and villain, they have a much stronger weapon:

    Their Hearts

    And of course, the ending:

The Terranort piece definitely felt weird, but in hindsight, it makes sense. Aqua, quite frankly, was stubborn, and unwilling to admit she had yet to recover from her stint in the RoD. Ven was similarly out of practice, but moreso unprepared for "Terra" to sucker punch him with such speed, also sending Aqua into a state of Shock. Sora, being used to this work, was able to quickly react, but was still at a physical disadvantage in this battle. Kairi, by far the least experienced wielder with defensive fighting (she's essentially still thinking in X masher mode), quickly freezes up, while both Lea and Sora get overwhelmed, forcing Goofy and Donald to make a reckless play. With the group in dissarray and critically wounded morale, the Heartless quickly pick them off. Even so, the strength of their connections is enough to guide their hearts and bodies home. The second was still "messy", but with context and hindsight, it ties together much better.

As for the rest, having the actual context to glue things together made a really strong finish to the Seekers saga:

Repliku got a second chance, and a more dignified end than his emotional heart attack in CoM. I don't think he needed to leave the Replica behind for Namine, but neither he nor Riku knew at this time they would have any hope of making more replicas.

Xigbar was largely unrepentant, seemingly committing suicide, but the Stinger paints that in a cleaner light, making his seemingly arbitrary actions suddenly clear as day

Luxord's fate is ambiguous, but he and Sora clearly part on good terms, and this opens the door for him to play an important part later.

The CoM duo finally recover their lost memories, in a poetic twist.

Saix is finally released from Xemnas' influence, giving him a chance to move on.

Vanitas, seemingly unrepentant, comes to accept his nature as "their shadow". Whether he's gone for good, part of the next threat, or even a begrudging ally is yet to be seen, but at the least, he is no longer just a pawn in Xehanort's games.

And of course, Terra himself. 12 years in story and out of imprisonment, and finally, he is free. And with him, the last tie Xehanort has over the present is severed, leaving us to put his war back where it belongs: in the history books

Even the final four villains get closure of some sort:

Young-X remains unrepentant to the end, as he sees no need to change when he will forget his growth anyway. Still, as mean spirited as it may be, he betrays a hint of emotion in his final words, as if only now he understands

Ansem, the Heartless with a mind, acknowledges that there are things stronger than Darkness. For someone known as The Seeker of Darkness, there are few parting words more powerful than his:

"There is more to seek. So go forth... and seek it"

And Xemnas, who once cast aside all emotion, finally understands he is all alone. After Roxas exposed his lack of understanding of the heart, he is finally able to admit Sora's strength to be able to carry the burden of such pain

And of course, the relic himself, Master Xehanort. A man who claims to fight against the tyranny of light exposed for who he is: a control freak, afraid to admit that some things just need to be. That you don't need to change the course of history to see a brighter tomorrow. At the end of his days, he is finally confronted with that which he cannot control, cannot destroy, and he makes peace with it. Whether he deserved to go in peace we can argue about until the end of time, but if even someone like Xehanort can learn to let go, then anyone can

Kingdom Hearts Union χ — Another Side, A Happier Story. I gave the main cast a happy ending because Nomura wouldn't. Enjoy several "what if" scenarios of the main cast in fun scenes in this fan-made alternate ending.

    Best KH1 Kairi Quote?

Not a lot of quotes to choose from but hey, she has probably the most iconic lines in the game.

    Master Form Leveling Trick

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 11:26 PM PDT

i was playing some 2fm today, using the sweet memories/drive converter/gambler trick to grind drive orbs. i realized that every so often, if you purposely lose the game (against the gambler) and turn into a card or dice, your drive gauge completely refills once back to normal. sora will still be in master form, too. this basically guarantees you stay in master form forever until you're done grinding. sorry if this is already a well known thing - just thought it was useful.

    BBS Questions about final episode!

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:08 PM PDT

Hey everyone! I've acquired the save data for the final episode and was wondering, how long is the final episode and secret episode? Are they like the length of a world?

Also, what level should I be for the final episode? I'm currently level 30 on Aqua.

    Thanks!

    Crowns redeeming?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:39 PM PDT

Hello, new to 358/2 Days, on day 54((?)Can't remember, in mission mode so I can't check rn, right after Roxas wakes back up after going for a month long nap) and the crowns say I can "redeem for freebies in the shop" but I don't see that option, do I need to wait for a later date or is there something I'm missing?

    Is KH2 a MUST play before 358/2?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:24 PM PDT

I've seen this question asked a few times before and it seems like the majority of people recommend KH2 first. I was wondering though, without spoiling too much, what makes these two games recommended in that order? I like to play games in chronological order so I don't get lost in the story, but if KH2 is based on the suspense of the story then I wouldn't want to ruin that experience. I'm also already on day 50 of 358/2, but I'm not sure if much has been spoiled for me yet.

Edit: Thanks for all the input. I think I'll go ahead and switch to KH2 before I dive any deeper into 358/2. Hopefully not too much has been spoiled for me since I only got through the CoM arc part of it.
