Regardless of the game, I love the profound impact Sora leaves on many of the iconic Disney characters. He truly matters to all of them & it's fun to see the natural chemistry he creates with every single one of these characters.

Just beat Mysterious Figure on my third attempt... as Terra.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 04:25 AM PST

Guys, I'm in absolute shambles. I'd usually never make a post like this, but I'm shook. Have been dreading this for weeks in my playthrough of BBS. Had a fair bit of trouble with No Heart earlier today (that damn "lose all health, lose all commands" attack thwarted me every single time), so I was not looking forward to reliving the trouble I had with the PS3 MF. So I stacked my deck with Cure's and Thunder Surges and prepared myself for a long night.

My first attempt, I died almost instantly. Was not nearly prepared. Second attempt, I studied him a little, but lost all my commands and freaked out. Dead. Third attempt, I slammed those thunder surges whenever I could. MF barely had a chance to move. If he tried attacking, BOOM, thunder surge. I barely even took any damage, I only had to heal about 4 times. When he went invisible, I just kept slamming those thunder surges in his direction until the screen went fuzzy. I thought I'd died somehow, until I saw the trophy click in the top left hand side.

I don't know how it happened; maybe I got incredibly lucky with the RNG. Maybe thunder surge is absolutely overpowered. Either way, I'm stoked. Now on to Ventus and Aqua while I've got the momentum!

PS: Playing on proud BTW. I envy anyone who can take on MF on Critical (but honestly wondering whether spamming thunder surges would even help out there)

I think Kingdom Hearts 3 gets a bad rep...here are my 10 reasons why I think KH3 is better than people give it credit for

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 08:50 AM PST

I know this is probably a topic that's been done to death by this point; a big point of contention among the community is whether or not Kingdom Hearts 3 is a good game or one of the worst in the series. Some people love it, some people hate it, and even the people that love it do have a lot of complaints surrounding it, hell even I have my own complaints that I could make a whole separate list about. But I wanted to ignore most of the negatives (some will be inevitably be brought up to make some of my points) and try and focus on why KH3 isn't just a great game, but why it may even be in the top 3. I don't think anything will ever replace KH2 in my eyes, but those are big shoes to fill, even bigger than Sora's.

So without further adieu, here are my Top 10 Reasons Why KH3 Is Better Than You Think...and I think it goes without saying there will be spoilers of course. And this is all just my opinion, this is all subjective. Feel free to disagree with me on any of my points I make, but just don't be a dick about it.

    10. The game is effin' gorgeousSo let's get the obvious one out of the way. I don't think there's any arguing that this is the best looking game in the series. Even its haters have to admit this is a damn beautiful game, and might even be one of the best looking games from the last generation of gaming. Heck even the current gen. I will say that there are some times that the more CGI looking graphics can actually work to its disadvantage. Something about some of the older titles like KH2 the characters manage to look more animated even though the graphics are more primitive. I don't know if it's the Unreal Engine 4 or what but sometimes the animations in this game can look a bit static, or some characters can appear lifeless or deadeyed. But outside of those few instances, it's beautiful eye candy that even the worst cynic can't help but admire.

    9. They fixed Pirates of the CarribeanThis is a point I don't see get brought up too often, though I do think The Caribbean level is one of the more highly favored worlds in the game. I was never too big a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean in KH2, feeling like Jack Sparrow's character was a bit lifeless, like he was bored to be there. A lot of the time it didn't even seem like he cared that Sora was around, only really acknowledging his existence towards the end when coveting his keyblade and the stupid out of nowhere "ARE NOT" joke thrown in at the end as if the game was trying to force a connection between the two. I think they really fixed Jack Sparrow in KH3. I won't act like I'm the biggest Pirates fan; the movies always confused me outside maybe the first one, and this isn't helped at all in the game either. Even the game is aware how confusing it is. But outside of the convoluted story, I think they really strengthened the connection between him and Sora. At times he almost feels like a fatherly figure to Sora, the way he talks to him and shows respect for him after all he's done, almost like a proud parent. Moments like that are adorable to me. Also just the level design in general, being able to sail a ship ala Assassin's Creed Black Flag, collecting treasure, it's like a mini game that you ACTUALLY want to play. In KH2 the level was very dark and drab, with nothing really that stand out about it, and I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and move onto the next level. Here, I didn't want to stop playing. The game within a game was so well done here, and going back to the first point, it's probably the best looking world in the entire game. Sure some of the cutscenes are prerendered CGI, but even so, it's so goddamn realistic I remember I had to pull my phone out and take pictures because my friends thought I was exaggerating when I said it looked like real life. I was so blown away visually. You could argue the level is a bit lacking in terms of its story, but I blame that mostly on Disney hammering Pirates over our head for the last 2 decades; the stories have always been all over the place and I don't know of a way Nomura could have made it make any more sense within his own admittedly convoluted story. Either way, I'd still take THIS Pirates over the original any day; though I do wish they had the original battle theme.

    8. The worst worlds in this game are better than the best worlds in old games (yeah I said it)
I know that many will probably disagree with me on this point, but I stand by that the worst worlds in this game are still leagues better than the best worlds in previous games. It floors me when people say Frozen is the worst world in not just KH3, but the entire series. Sure it's probably the worst world in KH3, being the "Atlantica" of KH3 or whatever, but I'll still take Frozen over Atlantica any day of the week. I also personally think Big Hero 6 is worse than Frozen personally, but that's just personal preference. I felt like Big Hero 6 was rushed through and was one of the shortest worlds in the game, so that's why for me it's not one of my favorites. But either way I think the worlds in this game are leagues better than previous worlds from past games (except for Twilight Town), being more open, gorgeous to look at, lots to explore, and implementing a lot of variety among each world. I felt like KH1 was trying to find its identity and wanted to be the next Mario, so it went for more platforming and verticality, which anyone will tell you the platforming in KH1 is pretty bad. In KH2, they listened to the complains and went for a more flat point A to point B design, which made some of the level designs in that game forgettable. And they continued with that trend until Dream Drop Distance, where they started going back to more verticality and trying to fix the platforming, preparing themselves for KH3. So with KH3, you get the best of both worlds, as well as a more open feel, even if most of it is just on rails designs in open world clothing. This also brings me to my next point:

    7. This game feels the most "Disney" out of all the Kingdom Hearts gamesNow, some might see this as a negative. That Disney had their hands in the cookie jar too much and that there was too much of a focus on the Disney stuff and not enough focus on the main story and nearly no focus on Final Fantasy, if any at all really. But that being said, I've always been a huge Disney fan, it's part of what drew me to Kingdom Hearts in the first place. And as someone whose been to Disney World multiple times in his life, I gotta say KH3 feels the most like being at a full fledged Disney Park. When I was going through the different worlds, each world evoked a specific feeling that I would get going to Disney World, and I think that was deliberate. For example, when me and my family go to Disney World, on day one we would arrive kinda late and so we would go to the different Disney stores they had around and shop around for memorabilia. I got that same feeling going to the Toy Box world; Galaxy Toys straight up has that same look and feel as a Disney Store you would go to at Disney World. The second day we would usually go to the Magic Kingdom, with the castle looming in the background. I got that same Magic Kingdom vibe from Kingdom of Corona; plus the lantern show felt like one of those crazy light shows you would see at night if you stayed late at one of the Disney parks. It just straight up felt like magic, and when Disney is at it's best, that's what it feels like, friggin' magic. There's also other elements that make KH3 feel like a trip through Disney World, like the Hidden Mickeys for example. One of the fun little side games to do when going to Disney World is finding Hidden Mickeys and it was cool that they took that concept and applied it to the game. Heck having a camera at all to take pictures of whatever whenever, it really feels like how you act when you're at Disney World wanting to snap pictures of every cool little thing. Sure that might be a minor feature but it really does add a quality of life to the whole thing; even little things like your party members posing for photos, that attention to detail is really appreciated.

    6. The reuniting of the Seasalt Trio and The Wayfinder GangOkay, even the most heartless bastards out there can't tell me these moments didn't make you cry your eyes out. I mean unless you skipped all the games between KH2 and KH3, then you probably don't care. But for those of us who were hardcore fans of Roxas and Xion, of Ventus, Aqua and Terra, I think out of all the things we wanted the most, we wanted to see these guys get their happy ending. We wanted to see these groups be reunited hugging and crying all the while. And man they didn't disappoint me on that front. The first time playing, when Roxas showed up at the end, by the time the fight against Saix started and we were fighting alongside Xion and Roxas, I was crying so fucking hard I had to pause the game and blow my nose/wipe away my tears. This was all I really wanted out of the game, to see these guys together again and I couldn't hold myself together. I sort of have a rule of thumb that if a game or movie can make me cry, it's doing something right. And man that moment just hit me right in the feels. Sure you can argue that the moment is ruined by Kairi becoming a damsel in distress once again (I wasn't happy about that either) and that Roxas was so OP that it also kinda ruins the moment, letting you just stand there and take pictures with your dumb camera while Roxas does all the work (I don't know if that was intentional or just a huge oversight) but just the fact that these guys got to reunite kinda made me not care lol. "Yeah screw you Kairi, go kick ass Roxas!" Ya feel me? I was already so outcried that by the time the Wayfinder trio reunites I was all cried out so it didn't hit me as hard but I was still cheering in my game chair, just happy that after all this bullshit Xehanort put everyone through, that these guys finally got their happy ending. And yeah, Sora and Kairi didn't get theirs I guess, but that's what the future games are for I guess.

    5. Sora and Kairi DID get their "kiss"
This might not be that big of a deal to even put on the list and doesn't really attribute to making this game "one of the best in the series", but I see it get brought up so often I felt like it needed to be addressed. One thing I see fans complain about is that "Sora and Kairi never even got to kiss". For one thing, when does anyone ever really "kiss" in this series? I think the only time I can remember anyone sharing a kiss was Aladdin and Jasmine during the end credits in KH1. Other than that, most kisses happen offscreen, and we're meant to use our imagination (example, Beauty and the Beast...how did he become human at the end of KH2 I wonder?) I could be wrong about this but I think the Japanese are a little more sensitive when it comes to PDA; even in the Persona games you never see the girls you date kiss the protagonist, it always cuts away before it'll show that. "But what about Hentai hmm? If Japanese are such prudes then explain that?" This is a kid's game we're talking about lol. But even if I'm wrong about my theory that the Japanese just view PDA different than we do, Sora and Kairi canonically got their kiss through the sharing of the Paupou fruit; that was the long awaited kiss everyone wanted but didn't know they wanted. In a way, sharing the Paupou fruit is bigger than a kiss, or even sex. It's the ultimate connection you can have with a person, which is probably why Sora and Kairi were able to do so many amazing things at the end of KH3 and Remind. So for everyone complaining about them not getting an on screen kiss, the Paupou fruit was your kiss, you got your kiss lol. But speaking of Remind:

    1. Well....RemindI think one thing many people complain about with this game other than the plot, pacing, and over saturation of Disney, is how the game ended. For a lot of people many were confused what was even going on during the ending, and people were pissed about how certain characters were treated, Kairi being the biggest bullseye for most people. Most of us wanted to see Kairi kick some ass, not get her ass kicked and Sora having to come to the rescue again. I think the Remind DLC rectified a lot of the complaints people had about the ending and gave the fans what they wanted. I still see people complain about Remind, saying it should have just been part of the ending in the first place and not some separate piece of content you had to buy, but I think these days Remind comes auto bundled with KH3 and collections anyway, so it's a bit of a moot point by now. I do think certain moments in Remind get a bit too exposition heavy, like Master Xehanort conversing with Xigbar about whose going to fill out their ranks and why, and you could argue parts of the story are still convoluted, mostly anything involving Sora using his newly acquired timey wimey abilities to save Kairi, but I still think it did a good of enough job at wrapping up the story and getting us pumped for the new games that have yet to come. And speaking of being pumped up for the next games:

    3. The Reveal of LuxuEven if you hate KH3, I think most can agree, the secret ending was one of the best if not the best moments in the entire series. The revelation that Xigbar was Luxu the entire time and if anything was using Xehanort like a puppet, that was just mind blowing to me. I got so many chills seeing that scene and I still get chills thinking about it. And now that we know about what we do about Brain, it makes going back to that scene even more chilling. But the best thing it does is it gets you pumped up for the next game. Now sure someone could argue that this is bait and just their way of saying "We're gonna milk the franchise for as loooong as we possibly can", and yeah I can see that being a concern. But I think a lot of people were sad thinking KH3 was going to be the very last game in the series, so which is it? Do you want the series to completely end or to go on for a little longer? I think as long as Nomura is alive the series is going to continue for as long as he has ideas up his sleeves.

    2. The Organization's Involvement in the WorldsSo the biggest complaint I hear from most is that there's too much Disney, not enough Kingdom Hearts. And while I will say the pacing is all over the place, the worlds are pretty consistent when it comes to involving the Organization members themselves, so you can't just say it's "ALL" pointless Disney nonsense. For example, the way the Toy Box world teases us about Quadratum and Yozora, how Young Xehanort views the toys as puppets with hearts, tying into his plight about how to create replicas to put hearts inside for the Organization. That's clever as hell, it makes perfect sense why we would go to this world. Monsters Inc I think does the best implementation of the Kingdom Hearts lore, with not only a nostalgic return of the Unversed, but with Vanitas offering a perfect explanation of why that world in particular is of importance to him, for he needs those screams and negativity to be recompleted. And with the Pirates World, how the Black Box Luxord covets somehow conveniently ties into the chest of Davy Jones. There were just so many clever ways they managed to tie the KH lore into the Disney stuff. The only ones that are kind of a rush job to me are Tangled and Frozen, with the whole "new princesses of heart" that ends up being nothing more than a bluff to get Sora to get his act together. But I still think people don't give enough credit to this game for melding the Disney stuff and the Kingdom Hearts lore almost seamlessly, for the most part.

    1. I felt like a kid againNow this is the most trivial and subjective one out of all of em, but it's my main reason I love KH3; I felt like a child again playing this game, and I still feel like a kid again when I play it. It's become a bit of a comfort game for me, as has the whole series. I can remember when I played through the game the first time, the entire time I was just squeeing with joy and was gushing over every moment of it, the good and the not so good. It's hard for me to step away from the game and just say "Eh, it was a disappointment" when it was eliciting the types of reactions it garnered from me. And trust me I went through my "KH3 was a bit of a disappointment" phase, and I still have my complains/grievances about it. But they aren't from a place of hate, but from a place of wanting to see the series be the best that it can be. But when I think back to first playing that game for the first time, and hell even again recently, I just always have a blast with it, and that's the most important thing. Sure, it isn't Kingdom Hearts 2, sure the pacing could be a bit better. Sure we should have had a Radiant Garden world "WHY DIDNT WE HAVE A RADIANT GARDEN WORLD"....but any complaints aside I still see it as a perfect to slightly imperfect love letter to any Kingdom Hearts fan.

There are other things I could have mentioned, like the music being absolute bangers or the moments where some of the Disney characters make complete asses out of the Organization members (I could watch Jack Sparrow heehawing his bad breath at Luxord on repeat for eternity) but I think I made most of my points clear enough. And like I said, I could make a whole separate list about things that are wrong with the game as well, but I think enough people have done that over the last couple years, so I just wanted to bring a little bit of positivity and share my experience/views on the game, and who knows, maybe it'll change your perspective some. Or maybe it won't and you reading this felt like a waste of time.

Anyway if you bothered reading this far, what do you love about KH3, even if it's not one of your favorites in the series? Do you have any counterarguments/viewpoints to some of the points I made? Sound off below, but please don't be dicks, let's try not to get into heavy debates; I mainly just wanted to spread a bit of positivity about a game I think gets too much hate. (also excuse any typos I inevitably made, this keyboard's a piece of crap)

    KH 1.5 Speedster trophy question

    Posted: 19 Nov 2021 08:34 AM PST

If I'm already playing on a save where I beat the final boss, would I be able to loop the time back to 00:00 after 99:00 and beat him again for the trophy? I see it's an exploit you can do, but I just can't find anything on it working if you've already beaten the game.
