After watching a video on the callbacks and foreshadowing used in Kingdom Hearts 3, I would like to amend my view on the Disney worlds not being that important to the overall story

    Posted: 06 Dec 2021 10:12 PM PST

I've always been of the belief that the Disney worlds in KH3 just didn't have the same significance to the overall story that you saw in previous games. It always felt like there /had/ to be Disney worlds so let's throw in a few that fans have been wanting, add in a bit of a connection to Sora's journey and leave it at that.

Then I saw this video that goes through all the references, callbacks and foreshadowing in Kingdom Hearts 3 and it's actually surprising how much connection there is between the Disney worlds and what happens in the final act of the game (especially in what happens to Sora). This is most evident in the Olympus and Tangled worlds where Olympus constantly has Sora (or others) talking about relying on their heart to save others and Xigbar outright saying that if Sora continues to put himself in danger for the sake of others, it's going to bite him in the ass. Tangled really only has it in one scene but it's after Flynn's been stabbed and Rapunzel is singing the healing song and it flat out talks about rewinding time to bring back what once was lost.

Another world with similar significance is the Pirates world in regards to Elizabeth and Will's relationship after he becomes the new Davy Jones and how that can connect to what Sora and Kairi's relationship becomes at the end of the game. Two people separated by different worlds and can never contact each other again (although I don't know if Sora and Kairi will get that 1 day clause).

All this has given me a new appreciation for the worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3 and how well they were implemented in regards to the overall KH story. Although it's all a lot less hopeful than previous games where the overall message in this game is more negative and talks about Sora and his issues with self-sacrifice and how it's going to screw with him.

This is the video if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sO5XVKIcyE

They also did a similar video for the Re:Mind DLC too.

Just realized Sora doesn’t have his shadow when fighting the first Darkside because it’s his shadow. This also foreshadowed him losing his shadow again in Neverland.

"For really showing us the way We like to thank you, Hironobu Sakaguchi You made Kingdom Hearts what it is today"

So…should we blame him and not Nomura for making the series so convoluted?

    Sora’s Mom…

    Posted: 06 Dec 2021 11:32 AM PST

    Is probably ok.

It left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth that the only time we see (or rather hear) her is in 1 where she asks for Sora to come down from his room during the heartless invasion. This planted in many people's minds the idea of a neglected figure left to mourn with no clue that her son is galavanting around various technicolor worlds with no thought for his mother.

This is probably not the case.

Since Destiny Islands fell to the darkness early on, his mother would've had only at most a couple hours to freak out that her absent-minded son had vanished into a storm before she was quite mercifully turned into a heartless. So she was spared worrying about him for the duration of 1.

When the world was remade, Kairi also returned. In 2 we see her wearing a school uniform, which implies she had returned to a normal life. The game doesn't say this, but given the amount of concern she shows for Sora, it's more likely than not that she would tell his mom that he's away, but ok. While this would still leave plenty of room for worry, it's less illness-inducing than simply having your child disappear in a storm.

As of the end of 2, Sora was able to return home, and it's again more likely than not that some sort of reunion took place off screen. So for that stretch of time, I'd say we can stop worrying about her.

After the end of 3, on the other hand… 😬
