My first experience playing Kingdom Hearts I on switch. (Cloud Version)

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 09:49 PM PST

Because I don't have a PlayStation, this week I purchased Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 for switch. I knew it was a cloud version, and played the 20 minute demo, which worked great so I went ahead and bought it while it was on sale at 20% off.

Sadly the Demo worked much smoother then the real game, immediately in KHI, I heard a warped muddiness to the sound quality of the into song, it sounded like the singer was standing behind a fan, singing though the blades. Video was OK so I'll deal with the sound lol

Island and tutorial was OK, but on the island I lost 30 minutes of progress when I stepped away for 5 minutes left the game paused to go help my 3 year old in the bathroom. I came back to a "Your game has been closed and you have been logged out due to inactivity."

Then when I got to Traverse Town that's when things started to get hairy. When I started fighting the heartless, I started to get freezes, and jitters in the video, and it got worse the bigger the group I fought, like there were too many visuals on screen. Saved and restarted which seemed to fix it, many I was logged into a bad server.

Got to Wonderland, experienced my first crash. The game grinded to a halt, the graphics and sound stuttered, and then error message a few seconds later. Luckily just lost a few minutes this time, but still don't know if I'll be able to finish the game unless they make some major improvements to the cloud streaming stability.

I honestly don't understand why they can't make an official port, given the graphics are still PS2 quality, and if the switch can handle games like BOTW it should do just find with this game. I feel like they used Ubitus cloud streaming as an easy out, and to making a single port that's ready for multiple consults with some minor tweaking. I can understand cloud streaming a more graphically demanding game like Kingdom Hearts III, but I and II not so much.

Giving it a 5/10 in it's current state, but I'm very hopeful for optimizations and fixes in the future. Not going to discount it just yet. I'm also considerate that the switch might still be part of the problem, because Nintendo has never done right by their online experience, so I'm not sure if there are any networking limitations at play.

I play a lot of Stadia on my Chromecast (which is far less powerful than the switch) with no issues, and I'm on Century Link 1gig fiber connection, so I know my network is fine, so I can't imagine the struggles those with slower internet must be experiencing.

[Other] isn't weird how the British Empire is Canon in Kingdom Hearts???

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 06:03 PM PST

Like, in KH1 alone you have Victorian London [Neverland] and the presence of British explorers in Africa [Deep Jungle]. Wonderland and 100 Acre Wood MIGHT count due the source material, but the outside is never shown so i'm not counting them

British presence in the next games is reduced, but they still have a representation thanks to The Caribbean/Port Royal, which blatantly shows again, British presence.

Isn't just weird how across all those separate worlds, scatted across space and showing different time periods, the English are present in some form?

Why does Kingdom Hearts 3 run good in PC with nearly old gpu compared to other games

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 07:55 PM PST

Hi guys, i'm just wondering why does Kingdom Hearts 3 which has better looking graphics render normally in old gpus at good fps compared to games like SIFU which looks less polygons and less characters per frame.

My Thoughts About Kingdom Hearts Being On Switch Through A Cloud Service. (Based On My Understanding Of The Situation)

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 06:50 PM PST

You know I feel sorry for anyone who ACTUALLY sincerely thinks they are getting a good deal by buying Kingdom Hearts on the Nintendo Switch. For those of you who are not aware, you pay $89.99 (Currently $71.99) to get access through a cloud service to play ALL of the Kingdom Hearts games (Excluding the newer ones). The problem is, you HAVE to have a stable internet connection to be able to play the games through the cloud at all times. If you are not, you get an error message like the image attached before the game ends itself. On top of what you are already paying for the Kingdom Hearts games, at bare minimum you HAVE to pay $19.99 (For 1 Year)/ $3.99 (For 1 Month)/ $7.99 (For 3 Months), just to be able to play these games.

Now having gone through Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, I can assure you, these are NOT short games. These games are LOADED with content. Now lets say you've been playing for a solid couple of hours making a lot of progress when suddenly the power goes out and you lose internet connect. During this time, you haven't saved in awhile. Is there an auto save function or are you just screwed?

The main reason why you would want to get any game on Switch as apposed to on another system is Portability. Being able to take your games with you everywhere you go. However you can't take Kingdom Hearts on the go, because unless you have a stable internet connect, you cannot play the game.

Meanwhile, I managed to get the Kingdom Hearts All-In-One Package for PS4 for just $20. The package comes with 3 disks which includes all the same games as you would get on Switch. Not only are they more graphically impressive on the Switch, but you DON'T have to be tied to an internet connection to play them because it comes with 3 Disks. You don't get portability... You have to play it at home just like with the Switch but WITHOUT being tied to the internet. In fact, I don't even have people I play with on the PS4 so I opted out of getting an online subscription fee... and yet I can still play all the Kingdom Hearts games.

Let's break down the cost. Assuming you already have the system of course.

    Kingdom Hearts on Switch:

$71.99 (Its current price to get all of the games) + $3.99 (The bare minimum needed to get Nintendo Switch online) = $75.98 to play all the games. This is not even counting the price of what it costs to pay the Wi-fi bill.

    Kingdom Hearts on PS4:

    Straight up $20

I know it wouldn't happen, but I could see this being a world in KH so easily. Fight minotaurs, face off against the nowhere king in the void. Sora and co being dressed up in drag to perform Johnny teatime
