    Melody of Memory was the best way they could have done a spin-off

    I don't need to tell anyone that Kingdom Hearts is an action RPG series. And for the most part the series has never strayed too far from that (mobile games aside which are still RPGs).

    Melody of Memory strays from the formula more so than any other game. And even if I think it has some issues (input lag on my PS4 copy, missing some songs/worlds I would like to see) I really think the Kingdom Hearts team knocked this one out of the park.

    It's a huge roster of songs, and for the genre I'm told it's a great value, it's very simple to play and the game doesn't beat you over the head to complete it. It's pretty light on story overall, but it also didn't have some BS secret ending requirement. You can spend 100s of hours with it or just a dozen. There's a ton of fan service and it's very accessible to people who would not normally play this type of game.

    For all the gripes some people may have, I'm glad they did it this way. If KH does decide to branch into other genres then I hope they use this game as an example of how to do it.
